Brand Mentions & Digital PR

Turning unlinked mentions into links, and finding the places where being named matters even without one.

What usually goes wrong

Being talked about and being linked to are different things, and the gap between them is usually the cheapest link opportunity a business has. Someone already wrote your name; they just did not make it clickable.

You would notice

  • Press coverage that never sent any traffic
  • Suppliers and partners listing you without a link
  • Directory and association profiles nobody maintains
  • Being quoted somewhere you only found by accident

The work

Brand Mentions & Digital PR, line by line.

Each line is work that gets done and can be checked afterwards. None of it is a promise about where you will rank — nobody can honestly make that one.

  1. 01Unlinked mentions found across the web
  2. 02Outreach to turn the worthwhile ones into links
  3. 03Places where being named matters even without a link
  4. 04Monitoring, so new mentions are caught while they are fresh

In practice

Mentions, and what each is worth doing about

CheckValueFinding
Trade magazine, 3 weeks old Ask Author still reachable
Supplier partner page Ask Usually a one-line request
Forum thread, 2019 Leave Nofollow, no traffic
Scraped copy of a press release Leave Nothing to gain

Illustrative example. Fresh mentions convert to links far more often than old ones.

Questions

Asked often enough to answer here.

Is an unlinked mention worth anything?

Some, as a signal that you exist. A link is worth more, and asking costs an email.

How do you find them?

Monitoring your name, your people's names and your product names across the web, then filtering out the scrapers, which are most of it.

Is this just PR?

It overlaps. The difference is that we are chasing the mentions that already happened rather than trying to create new ones.
